I am looking to formulate my own cleaning chemicals. Does any have any recommendations for an aggressive, non-oxidizing cleaner for collodial and biofouling? I have Dow Filmtec BW30/400 with 34 mil spacers. The plant is located in new york city and we are running city water from the catskill reservoir.

homebrewing is really not the way to go, membrane manufacturers recommend certain cleaners, and membrane chemical cleaning vendors sell proprietary cleaners. Only those chemicals thst have been approved in writing by the membrane manufacturer should be used. There are many approaches to cleaning reverse osmosis systems. For Biofouling usaully use Caustic (NaOH) with sodium dodecylsulfate or sodium ethlylene diamine tetraactic (EDTA). The wrong cleaning method can cause irreversible damage and or destroy the membranes in alll.. good luck

If you are carrying out the cleaning process for the first time, It is better to take services from the original membranes supplier. Once if you feel confident, you may carry out on your own from the next time.

I am also agree to @ Block 1, here if you are cleaning your system for the first time or whenever you should always rely on the instructions provided by your membrane manufacturers, they can recommend you better water treatment chemicals manufacturers or vendors.
