Default Why RSV Need Open When Turbine Reset ?

We Have GE 550MW Steam Turbine With Mark V Contro System,
Would Someone Please Tell Me Why The RSV (Reheat Stop Valve) Should Open When Turbine Reset ?
Thanks!

It may be because of the size of the unit and the steam pressure supplied. Our unit opens all valves upon reset, this is to verify or ensure proper pressure and flow through the entire unit. With the valves shut or almost shut some sections of the turbine are actually under a vacuum or may have no flow. With no flow windage can occur and heat can increase rapidly, so on your unit it may be just to ensure the unit heats up uniformly. Sometime with hi pressure inlets and low flow the pressure drop can be great. This is just my take on it hope it helps, great question. Doug

I work at Cairo-West Power Station (EGYPT)

We Operate 2 MHI Steam Turbine, each one 350 MW, its specification is as follows:

TYPE: single reheat condensing tandem compound, two cylinder, double flow exhaust
Rated output: 350 MW
Speed: 3000 rpm

After completion of warming the turbine and piping by bypass system, we make (TURBINE RESET), and then Governors (GV) & Reheat Stop Valve (RSV) will open to provide steam flow For both HP & IP Turbine.

Then we make (Speed Up) by opening, Main Stop Valve (MSV) and Interceptor valve (ICV), Until after initial load of steam turbine is accomplished we make (Valve Transfer) that make (MSV) fully open And (GV) in control mode.

magnificent submit, very informative. I'm wondering why the opposite experts of this sector don't notice this. You should continue your writing. I'm sure, powerplantforum.com have a huge readers' base already!
