Default Reducing Rockwell Data Type

The Rockwell ST datatype and associated data file creates a word length of 80 characters by default.

Does anyone know of a way to reduce this word/character count?

What Rockwell platform are you using? PLC-5, ControlLogix, SLC-500?

I dont believe there is anyway to change the length of each element in a string data type in a PLC-5 processor. Each element in the string data file has a maximum length of 82 characters, however, you can use the .LEN parameter to determine how many characters are currently used. If you dont want to use a string data type, you could try using an ASCII data type. Why do you need to reduce the character count?
