Default Hydrogen Cooling Enhancement

Uch Power Station is a 586 MW combined cycle station (ISO rating) with a 3 x GE frame 9E gas turbine generators, 3 x Heat Recovery Steam Generators and a C7 Steam Turbine Generator situated in Baluchistan province of Pakistan. The turbine generators are hydrogen cooled and each generator has four 4 coolers. The cooler uses closed cooling water for the cooling of hydrogen.

In summer months, the closed cooling water temperature at generator cooler inlet remains approx. 43~44 °C and it causes the generator cold gas alarm to be enunciated whereas the design temperature is 36 °C with flow of 1215 gallons/min.

In view of above problem, could you please offer us some localized solution for our turbine generator.

Regards,

M. Zeeshan Iqbal

Default RE: Hydrogen Cooling Enhancement

Few items you might consider looking is the flow rate of the heat exchanger. If the flow rate is not correctly calculated, the thermal exchange across the heat exchanger will be effected. Also try lowering the inlet water temperature of the heat exchanger to help with reducing Hydrogen gas temps. If all else fails, maybe your HX was not sized correctly in the design of the CCW package.

Highvoltage,

I will definitely look at the HX flowrate.

We are currently looking at lowering the inlet water temp of the HX. Is there a company which can help us?
