Default Lube oil additive

Has anyone experimented with additives in their Lube oil to stretch the life out. If so, what manufacturer and what was your experience with it? Thanks

Default RE: Lube oil additive

I have used additive packages marketed by Mobile, but my experience is that you buy very little time to replacement. Less than a year in my case.

Default RE: Lube oil additive

I have heard of lube oil additives to stretch out oil life. while this maybe okay with low pressure, moderate temperature oils, If the oil is also shared with the high pressure system, such additives will cause adverse properties such as accelerated changes in viscosity, greater varnishing potential, separations issues. etc... The best way to stretch out oil life is to ensure its free of water, ensure particle count is low, maintatin your filtration system, and possibly periodically running the oil through an extrenal cleaner/electrostatic and particle remover.
thanks

Default Additives and Balanced Charge Agglomeration

Several well know lubrication specialists claim they can replace additives, but had very poor results. In talking to lubrication engineers at Lubrizol, the designers of additives, I found they do not recommend adding new additives. In order to work properly they should be blended at the refinery.

My company supplies the electrostatic purifiers that GE recommends for its turbines. It works by removing submicron particles, which act as a catalyst that increase varnish and deplete additives using Balanced Charge Agglomeration. We have these machines on more than 800 gas and steam turbines in most countries in the world. They work very well at keeping oil super clean, removing varnish and protecting additives. At seven 7FA plants in the southeast of the US, they are on their 8th year on their oil. The oil looks like Pilsner beer. The varnish potential is near new oil and the additives are over 80% of remaining useful life. Arecent tear down showed mo varnish in the lubrication system.
