Default Ocean Energy Industry

With fossil fuel energy losing its popularity owing to its emission of harmful gases, the renewable sources are finding many takers. Among the renewable sources of energy is the ocean turbine power. It is believed that the ocean possesses magnitudes of energy potential within itself. Only 0.2% of this potential has been tapped till date.

The ocean energy is present in the ocean water in three forms. It is present in the waves of the ocean, its tides and in the difference of water temperature. Waves are formed when the wind blows and carries the water along. These comprise of a great deal of energy. The other form is the tides, which are formed by the gravitational pull of the moon. The third form of energy is the ocean thermal energy created by the differential heating of the ocean water by the sun. In some places this difference in temperature of the surface water and the water below can be too huge.

The ocean energy is so huge that only 10% of the ocean energy can power the whole world. All that is needed to tap this energy and that which remains untapped is a good strategy. The ocean power industry is in its infancy currently but is slowly gaining momentum.

One place to learn more about Ocean Energy is the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center:
