reducing rust/scale in water cooling system
We have a generation plant with 3 diesel engines( 2 are 4945hp, 1 is 7131hp) which usually don't generate more than a couple of hours a year. During winter months we drain outside radiators and blow out tubes. jacketwater is circulated through the engines all the time, just not out to radiators.
During annual filling of radiators, we are seeing alot of rust or scale flakes, which are circulated when the radiator is put into service.
I would like to know if anyone has experience with installing some type of filter in the line, prior to the jackwater pumps, which would help remove the rust/scale.
We have our jacketwater tested monthly, and have to add some corrosion protection to the water thorough-out the year.
My concern is that the rust/scale flakes could get into engine and plug the ports.
Any ideas? You can contact me at *rmiell@ci.la-junta.co.us* if you wish to. (remove * before and after email address).
