Rick,
Windows Mobile is very user friendly and both Access (using a third party software) and Excel's (is adaptable with WinMobile from the start) full version from your PC can be transposed onto your mobile device. As a Maintenance Manager I currently have all of my excel and Access spreadsheets on my handheld such as mechanic shift hours tracking, Station spare parts list, Device summary and settings, etc. My phone is the AT&T Tilt with Windows Mobile on it, and I love it. It can schronize with my Email Outlook and allow me to access all of my files.
This web site explains some of the capabilities with Windows Moibile.

Here's another link to Microsoft's site and users discussing ways to view Access files on their Windows Mobile.

let me know if you have any other questions. thanks
